A pioneering initiative that began in 2012, the India Design Forum (IDF) was launched with the objective of spotlighting the movements in the sphere of Indian design. Conceived by the Coimbatore Centre for Contemporary Arts (CoCCA), IDF focuses on the evolution of design in India, its position in the context of global trends and its engagement with the international design world. IDF is the largest and most influential event of its kind in the country, spanning across all disciplines that come under the purview of design—fashion, furniture, textile, industrial, product and architecture.
IDF provides an invaluable platform to experts, professionals, established names and emerging talent, to interact with their counterparts from across the world. It initiates a dialogue that seeks to give voice to a constantly evolving, dynamic discipline.
The Design Forum was spread over two days had talks, seminars, discussions and debates by world renowned experts and designers who addressed issues about the social relevance of design, its commercial appeal and the innovations that drive it. It was preceded by the Design Week, which hosted cutting edge workshops, curated events and design exhibitions open to the public.
IDF 2016: EMPOWERING THROUGH DESIGN aims to challenge and provoke established thinking by presenting key global issues and linking these to the opportunities available to the design sector in India. The Forum embraces international viewpoints and proposes ways in which design can be used to improve and boost national and global economies. IDF intends to discuss and explore great innovations from around the world.IDF 2016 is an ancillary event of the Make in India Week that aims to showcase the potential of design, innovation and sustainability across India's manufacturing sectors in the coming decade. A week that will spark a renewed sense of pride in India's manufacturing – and take corporate and public participation to the next level.
IDF 2016: will present The “Mumbai Design Trail”. Each day a tour around some of the city’s creative neighborhoods will be scheduled as a means discover its unique design offerings. In this conversation of heterogeneous objects, different disciplines will engage in a dialogue with the only condition that it revolves around DESIGN MADE IN INDIA.The Mumbai Design Trail will build momentum towards the India Design Forum and highlight how design is a powerful motor that empowers the city.
